About Me Featured Image 3

Welcome! I’m Emily…

As a kid, I was obsessed with Anthony Bourdain and David Attenborough and their unique lives visiting remote places, seeing rare wildlife, and interacting with amazing cultures. I always dreamed of traveling the world, but with minimum savings and only two weeks of PTO a year post-college, it felt impossible.

So, in 2020, I decided to take a leap of faith and leave everything I had worked for behind. I saved $30,000, quit my job, and took a chance on becoming a full-time travel blogger and custom travel planner.

Since then, I’ve:

  • Visited 40+ countries
  • Driven 35,000+ miles across North America
  • Lived in Alaska through a harsh winter
  • Made my own list of the top Christmas markets in Europe
  • Started my own travel planning course, Your Travel Planning Business
  • Helped hundreds of travelers reach their dream destination
  • … and more!

I like to say that my travel style is a little of everything. I’ve slept everywhere from the ground to 5-star suites, eaten questionable street food and multi-course tasting menus, and planned everything from spontaneous weekend escapes to detailed, month-long adventures.

I’ve backpacked through 20 European countries with my husband where we’re always searching for amazing cities, local hideaways, great food, and unforgettable adventures. At this point, I’ve become a go-to Europe expert for travelers who want real, on-the-ground advice.

Along the way, I’ve been featured in:
New York Magazine, Reader’s Digest, Yahoo News, AOL, GO Banking Rates, Shoutout Miami, Best Life, and several podcasts, including one with Emmy-award winners Jack and Kitty Norton.

Don’t get me wrong though. Despite this cool list of credentials, I had to learn a lot of things pertaining to this “ultimate travel lifestyle” the hard way. If you want to read about my biggest mistakes as a 17-year-old backpacker, check out my free eBook: Transformed by Travel: How My First Trip to Europe Changed My Life

Since taking that leap, I’ve had my fair share of travel lessons and life-changing adventures with each one shaping how I explore the world today. Through Emily Embarks, I now share honest travel guides, unique itineraries, and practical tips to help you plan trips that feel exciting, doable, and truly your own. If you love planning your own adventures, you’ll find plenty of inspiration here.

Where I’ve Traveled in Europe

  • Austria – Vienna has one of the grandest Christmas markets on the continent that completely blew my mind
  • Belgium – Bruges is one of my favorite fairytale towns in Europe
  • Czech Republic – I’ve visited the Czechian capital numerous times and it will always be in my top three favorite cities in Europe
  • Denmark – Nyhavn, fresh seafood, one of the safest countries in the world… I have some insanely good content coming your way soon!
  • Estonia – Having traversed Europe extensively, I found Estonia to be nothing short of exceptional! And the best part is… there were hardly any other tourists there. Don’t worry, I’m currently creating lots of wonderful content on Estonia too!
  • France – I went paragliding off Mont Blanc in Chamonix, compared the Christmas markets between Strasbourg and Colmar, and train traveled throughout the country.
  • Germany – Berlin, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Nuremberg… Germany is a diverse country that I’ve visited half a dozen times now! Keep an eye out for my content on the Christmas markets coming your way.
  • Hungary – Budapest was one of the most unique European cities I ever visited as a young backpacker in 2018
  • Iceland – I drove the entire southern half of the country in just 4 days as a challenge to see what could really be done in Iceland if you’re short on time! I also saw the northern lights during my visit.
  • Ireland – I road-tripped hundreds of miles through the Irish countryside
  • Luxembourg – This day trip to Luxembourg from Brussels is a must-do for those who don’t have a lot of time in this tiny European country!
  • Netherlands – Ah, Amsterdam. De Pijp, Jordaan, Westerpark… some of the most unique neighborhoods in Europe!
  • Portugal – I backpacked between Lisbon, Cascais, and Estoril!
  • Spain – Tapas, beaches, historic ruins… Spain quickly became a favorite of mine after a visit to Barcelona
  • United Kingdom – From England and Wales to Northern Ireland and Scotland, this is one of the most epic regions in Europe!
