There is no direct train from Belfast to Giants Causeway, unfortunately. However, you can take a train from Belfast city center to Coleraine, then jump on over to the bus station to ride a bus up to the Giants Causeway.
It’s definitely a bit more confusing of a travel method and will require some day pass tickets and so forth, but if you’re on a very tight budget, this is the most cost-efficient method of seeing the Giants Causeway.
Is There a Belfast to Giants Causeway Bus?
There is a bus from Coleraine to Giants Causeway (you would get off at The Nook’ stop) which takes about 2 hours, but you would have about a 30-minute walk to the Causeway once you arrived.
The total journey time would take roughly 2 hours (not including the train ride to Coleraine), so if you’re on a bit of a time crunch, then a guided tour will save you a lot of time.
Can You Swim at Giants Causeway?
While there are some shallow pools you could technically swim in, it isn’t really recommended since it’s very rocky and if you were to slip on the rocks or be knocked over by the waves, serious injury could occur.
Not to mention, the Atlantic Ocean is quite cold and Ireland isn’t typically a hot weather destination, even in the summer months!
