One of the biggest expenses in Algarve is accommodation. During peak season (June-August), hotel prices can skyrocket, especially in popular areas like Albufeira and Lagos. However, there are ways to save money on accommodations and I’m going to teach you about them in this post!

In 2023, the cost of visiting Algarve varied significantly depending on the type of vacation one sought. The average daily cost for a single person was around $225, including hotel, meals, activities, and transportation.
However, these costs could vary considerably if you opted for more or less luxurious accommodation or dining options.
Travel Tips for Tourists Visiting Algarve on a Budget
- Off-Peak Travel: Consider visiting Algarve during the off-peak season (September to May) when accommodation and flight prices are significantly lower! This can save thousands on your Portugal travel itinerary.
- Use Public Transportation: Algarve has an efficient network of buses and trains. Choosing public transportation over taxis or car rentals can save money, but it ultimately depends on when you book and the rate you get.
If you’ll be going all over southern Portugal, a rental car may better suit you.
