Thinking about what the best places to visit in April in Europe are? I know the struggle. Knowing which destinations will have the weather you want with fewer crowds that are also in your budget can be tough.

That’s why I created this list of the best places to visit if you are looking for warm weather, are trying to be budget-conscious, or are bringing the whole family on vacation!

If you’re one of the lucky ones who will be traveling to Europe in April, you’re in for a treat. Although it is still technically winter in some places and kind of spring already in others, the weather overall is starting to warm up and the days are getting longer.

Of course, there are occasions where places such as the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands will receive rogue hot weather even in their winter, but the chances of it happening during your quick trip are a bit slim.

But, if you’re looking for warm weather, Paris isn’t going to get you what you’re looking for. Instead, check out the charming coastal city of Marseille! It’s loaded with picturesque views, delicious local cuisine, and beaches that lure travelers in from around the world each and every day.

Some top things to do and see in Marseille include exploring the colorful Old Port area, sampling fresh seafood at one of the city’s many local restaurants like La Delicatesse – Restaurant Marseille or Aux Antipodes, and taking a scenic stroll to the Cathédrale La Major or through the Palais Longchamp and Parc Borély.

Perhaps you don’t mind a little chilly weather if it means you’ll save a lot of money on your trip. If that sounds like you, then you and I would likely get along very very well.

My husband and I don’t love the heat or summer months anyway, so we’re usually booking our trips for the shoulder seasons since we get amazing deals on travel, are surrounded by far fewer crowds, and have more time to spend with the locals.

I also hate when there are a million people in front of a landmark, so I’m always that person that will get up at 5:00 in the morning to get photos before all of the other tourists wake up. But, if you simply travel in the off-season, then you won’t have to do this (at least in most places).

With a combination of free historic landmarks, popup outdoor photo galleries and museums, delicious cuisine at the local supermarkets, and bustling nightlife, there are plenty of things to see and do here on a budget.

Some top attractions in Paris include visiting the Eiffel Tower (it’s beautiful at night), exploring the Louvre Museum (free on the first Saturday of every month between 6:00PM-9:45PM), wandering through the Jardin du Luxembourg, meandering along the cobblestone streets of Montmartre, and window shopping at some of the best boutiques in the world right on Les Champs-Élysées

16. Nuremberg, Germany

Die-hard history buffs are sure to love Nuremberg, a charming German city that is home to some of the country’s most historic sites (think Documentation Center Nazi Party Rally Grounds and the Imperial Castle of Nuremberg).

From the ruins of medieval castles to grand Gothic churches and beautiful Baroque opera houses, Nuremberg has something for everyone.

To explore Nuremberg on a budget, consider taking advantage of the city’s extensive public transportation system. Whether you opt to take a tram, bus, or metro, all rides in Nuremberg are just a couple euros each, making it easy and affordable to get around town.

18. Lisbon, Portugal

Surrounded by lavish countries in all directions including France, Ireland, England, and Spain, Portugal is a true hidden gem in Europe offering its visitors a much-needed break from the high-end amenities and their associated price tags.

And while many may assume that Lisbon would be expensive being the capital city of one of Europe’s most popular countries, it’s refreshing to know that is not the case in the slightest.

Sure, Lisbon has dozens of beautiful high-end hotels offering rooftop pools and private terraces overlooking the city’s terracotta rooftops as well as Michelin-star restaurants, but so does every city in Europe!

And the best part, Lisbon is very safe for people of all ages and makes for the perfect beginning or end to any Portuguese itinerary. The weather is also nice in Lisbon much of the time so you won’t have to pack too much winter wear, but it has been known to snow in Portugal from time to time.

19. Budapest, Hungary

From impressive museums to fantastic restaurants and a rich history, it’s no wonder that so many people are drawn to the allure of Budapest, one of the most beautiful cities in all of Europe.

While we did see some families roaming around in Amsterdam, it’s not exactly somewhere that the majority of parents choose to bring their kids. But, to each his own.

If you’re hoping for some family-friendly European destinations in spring 2025, I get it! While many families choose to take a winter ski trip over the holiday break, there are plenty of others who choose to enjoy the holidays at home and plan a spring vacation once everyone’s schedules have become a bit less hectic.

Whatever you choose to do, you deserve to enjoy your vacation in a place that caters to people of all ages. And I can practically promise you that the list I have put together below will not disappoint!

22. Luxembourg City, Luxembourg

As one of Europe’s smallest countries, Luxembourg is a hidden gem that you really can’t miss. And with its many historical and cultural attractions, there’s no better city to visit than the capital, Luxembourg City!

Known for its beautiful old-town, medieval architecture, and stunning views of the city from atop Fort Thüngen, there’s no doubt that Luxembourg City is a great choice for families. And with it being the last country in the world with a Grand Duke, I highly suggest visiting Palais Grand-Ducal to witness the changing of the guard!

The Bock Castmates are also a fantastic day trip option for anyone who loves history and ancient ruins, plus they offer tour guides for those who want to learn a little bit more about why the structure was built.

And if you have time, consider taking day trips to Vianden Castle and the Mullerthal Region which is known for its enchanting, moss-covered forests and toppling waterfalls.

23. Bruges, Belgium

I’ve never experienced a town more fairytale-like than Bruges. From strolling along the canals to roaming through hidden alleyways among some of the most medieval-looking buildings in Europe, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a more picturesque European destination than Bruges.

Even with kids in tow, you’ll be free to explore the city’s iconic squares including Burg Square and Markt Square, as well as climb the iconic stairs in the Belfry of Bruges for stunning views of the enchanting city below.

In the spring, you’ll be spoiled with fewer crowds, hardly any wait times at the best restaurants with unbeatable views over the Amalfi Coast, and plenty of space to enjoy the Path of Gods and the surrounding seaside villages.

Positano is just a beautiful place to walk around and enjoy some delicious Italian cuisine, so don’t get too caught up in taking day trips (though the blue grotto is beautiful) and the town’s sites.

Come springtime, most tourists avoid the United Kingdom owing to its high probability of rain and cloudy weather. But, that’s exactly why you should visit! What’s London anyway without a bit of rain? It wouldn’t really be a British vacation without it, in my opinion.

It’s easy to make the most of your rainy visit when there are no other tourists (unless you visit during the week of spring break) and you have Buckingham Palace, The National Gallery, and the iconic Borough Market all to yourself! The Borough Market is one of the best places to pick up some unique British souvenirs if you happen to pop in for some lunch or shopping.

London may be most visited in the winter (here are my 60 Incredible Things To Do in London in Winter) and summer months, but that doesn’t mean you and your kids won’t enjoy a hotel with a heated indoor pool and some delicious bangers and mash (yes, this stereotype is full-heartedly true) to bring you back to life after a chilly day out on the town.

And if you do get lucky enough to visit London in the spring without rain, be sure to take a ride on the London Eye for epic views of the city!

Often skipped by excited travelers anxious to get to Lapland, Helsinki is Finland’s beautiful capital city that never gets as much attention as it deserves. But, since you’ll be traveling with kids, hopefully this will give you the opportunity to check out everything this Finnish city has to offer!

Situated on a peninsula just off the Baltic Sea, Helsinki is surrounded by plenty of natural beauty and blessed with mild temperatures year-round.

But, in April, when most families have returned home for school, the mountain trails are open for shredding, the temperatures are a bit more comfortable, and you won’t find any lines at the chair lifts.

Not to mention, this is also when airfare drops to an all-time low! I scored a $180 flight to Geneva from the U.S. in the first week of May, when flights typically cost a minimum of around $500-$600+.
